The holographic circus that entertains Neel’s little brothers is the same one Chewbacca’s family saw in the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special (1978). I watched the first two episodes and while there is a clear effort to create a "goonies in space" show here, what’s wrong with that? This is a very different take on a story that exists in the Star Wars universe. I enjoyed the look and feel of a suburban town in this world because we’ve never seen that. The town they come from reminded me more of E.T.’s neighborhood than anything we’ve seen on shows recently. The 4 main characters are typical but fun, each having their clearly defined roles in the group and the actors play them well. The pirate vibe isn’t necessarily something we’ve seen before and adds a slightly creepy element and atmosphere of danger. If this were an 80s movie, it would fit right in. I’m enjoying it so far for the new narrative elements of the Star Wars universe, the touches of nostalgia from the movies of my childhood, and the fact that I get to share this Star Wars experience with my kids.
