The plot is about a couple who have recently become parents and learn to work together. One day, the husband stays home alone to take care of the newborn while the wife goes out and comes home with guests for dinner. The husband has an accident and the night takes a dramatic turn for the worse. This film was directed by Caye Casas (Asylum: Twisted Horror and Fantasy Tales) and stars David Pareja (Amigo), Estefania de los Santos (Unit 7), Claudia Riera (Black Snow) and Josep Maria Riera (Asylum: Twisted Horror and Fantasy Tales). The premise of this film is wild and gripping. Events unfold quickly and you find yourself squirming the entire time, trying to imagine how someone could handle such a situation. The acting is excellent and captures the predicament perfectly. The sets and atmosphere are tense and haunting, with a constant feeling of an “elephant in the room” that only one character and the audience know about. When the reveal happens, it’s mind-blowing. In conclusion, The Coffee Table is a unique horror/thriller that is well written and even better executed. It’s a slow but brilliantly tragic journey. I would rate it 8/10 and highly recommend it.
